This Fall marks the 10 year anniversary of "Had A Sword" which won a Nashville Scene Award that same year. Thornton toured extensively in the mid 2000's and finally disbanded near the turn of the century. Kevin Thornton and Enoch Porch are gathering late this summer to track a new album.

Combining the sexual ambiguity of Bowie or Morrissey (not glam or maudlin) with a cabaret-esque backdrop of electric piano and vintage guitars (not retro), Thornton creates cracked pop in the tradition of (not derivative) Kate Bush, Roxy Music, James and Lou Reed, echoing with the hymns of a troubled Southern Baptist boy from the Indiana/Kentucky border (not bitter). In the winter of 2003, they rented a dilapidated house on the wrong side of the tracks in Nashville, where they assembled a makeshift studio and began laying down the tracks for their debut album. The record borrowed from jazz, ragtime and old hymnal progressions—all executed in a manner that never becomes novelty or put-on.

"People still tell me they listen to that record (Had A Sword)," says Kevin Thornton. "I think it's unusual for local indie records to stand the test of time." The album was "...at once strange and touching," said Columbus Alive Magazine. "Fascinating individualism," said Music Row Magazine.

"There was a period in our early Nashville days where it seemed like we were really going to hit," says Kevin Thornton. "We were getting a lot of attention when (Had A Sword) was released. We got on the road and worked very hard, but It was a time when the industry was changing so fast." The group was following the DIY- road warrior work ethic of a young REM in an age when Youtube and iTunes were rapidly reinventing how people consumed entertainment. On the evening of August 22, 2005 the road-weary band was leaving Houston heading for New Orleans. "We almost drove straight into Hurricane Katrina." The group cancelled the remainder of their tour and returned to Nashville. "We were just exhausted." That event led the group to ultimately part ways.

However, during the late summer of this year, they are setting up a studio in a family farmhouse to record their sophomore album tentatively titled "Heavy Fantasy." They plan to continue in the musical lineage of their debut, while reflecting who they are today. "10 years is a long time. We've grown. We've gotten better. I hope it translates," says Thornton. A documentary is also in the works. "Along with these new songs is a story to be told." says Thornton. "It's a story about never giving up."
